Former Graduate Student

Christos Gkartzonikas
Ph.D. - 2020

Christos is a former Ph.D. student in the Transportation and Infrastructure Systems program at the Lyles School of Civil Engineering. He received his Diploma in Civil Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, where his undergraduate thesis was titled 'Impact of texting on young drivers' traffic and safety on motorways by the use of a driving simulator.'  Christos received his M.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Cyprus, where his thesis was titled 'Entropy-based method of the operations and maintenance of roadway transport networks'. His research interests include transportation planning, human factors, and transportation modeling.  Specifically, he applies econometric models to evaluate the behavior intention to ride in autonomous vehicles and assess substitution patterns and impacts on mode choice decisions.

Christos has also served on the councils of the Purdue Student Chapter of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) and the Hellenic Student Association.

Past Projects:

Evaluating Opportunities to Enhance the Hoosier State Train Ridership through a Survey of Riders' Opinions and an Assessment of Access to the Line

Feasibility Analysis of Electric Roadways Through Localized Traffic, Cost, Adoption, and Environmental Impact Modeling

Behavioral Intention to Ride in an Autonomous Vehicle and Implications on Mode Choice Decisions, Energy Use and Emissions
